This is the second year Dandara has supported the sporting occasion, having sponsored the 5K in 2013. Next year the firm will be backing the slightly longer distance challenge, organised by the Garioch Sports’ Trust.
The registered charity, which was originally formed in 1990, manages the Garioch Sports Centre and actively encourages local residents to develop an interest in sporting activities and exercise. The group of trustees organise the event which hosts three separate routes covering 5K, 10K and the half marathon.
Dandara’s managing director Gavin Wyley said: “At Dandara we are always keen to support the local community and consider corporate social responsibility to be just as important as any other area of our business.
“Last year several of us participated in the 5K and this year will be no different, as we have a significant number of employees who will be more than willing to take part. I’m sure there will be healthy competition in the office and onsite.”
In attendance at the launch was Derek Hawkins, 24, Team GB marathon runner and Common Wealth Games favourite.
Gillian Roberts, sales manager for Dandara also attend the launch. She said: “The Run Garioch is a fantastic event to get behind. It gives people an opportunity to have fun while raising money for a great cause, be it the Garioch Sports Trust or a charity of their choice.
“We are all pleased to be involved again this year and now that the event has been launched we will all be signing up and putting our trainers on.”
Race Director Eric Simpson said: “Run Garioch is Inverurie’s largest annual community event. Thanks to the support of all our sponsors and patrons, we’ve been able to invest heavily in race infrastructure to make the next Run Garioch on 23 March 2021 better than ever.”
“From a new online entry system to state-of-the-art chip timing and the race-day experience itself, runners will notice a lot of improvements. They’ll also be pleased to hear that we’ve held prices at 2013 levels.”
Entries are now open on www.rungarioch.co.uk. Teams of four can also register for the 10K Corporate Challenge. There are also places remaining for the CP&Co Junior Run for children aged four (who do not have to be in school) to 12.
