A family-owned farm in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire is celebrating after striking a £100,000 deal to supply Aldi stores in Scotland with cold-pressed rapeseed oil under their Specially Selected brand.
Specially Selected Rapeseed Oil, produced by Mackintosh of Glendaveny, is on shelves now across Aldi’s 65 Scottish stores.

Mackintosh of Glendaveny has been producing extra virgin and cold pressed rapeseed oil, all of which is grown, pressed and bottled on the family farm, since 2009. This is the family business’s first deal with Aldi.

Dubbed as ‘Britain’s olive oil’, rapeseed oil is hailed for its health and nutritional benefits, containing half the saturated fat content of other vegetable oils and 10 times more Omega 3 than olive oil.

Gregor Mackintosh, owner of Mackintosh of Glendaveny, said: “I first had the idea to produce rapeseed oil in Aberdeenshire when I was studying at the Scottish Agricultural College and recognised a gap in the market for this healthy product. To have our rapeseed oil on Aldi’s shelves, just a few years later, is a significant achievement.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Aldi to bring our taste of Aberdeenshire to Scotland and beyond over the coming months.”

Richard Holloway, managing director for Aldi in Scotland, said: “Rapeseed oil is continuing to grow in popularity and it’s important to us to source a home-grown version of this product for our customers in Scotland.

“Working with the best suppliers in the country is a priority for us and we are continually looking for the best quality Scottish produce to stock in our stores at everyday low prices.”
