Thor Holt - Are You Dangerously Dull? The Scott Adams interview

New columnist Thor Holt interviews Dilbert creator Scott Adams as part of a new series of podcasts.

Oscar Wilde put it like this, “An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all.”

As a practicing presentation coach, I think what he probably meant was please express your opinion, don’t be dull and tell us a story!

OK, how’s your business life stacking up for danger versus dullness? When you’re on your way into work in the car or train (private jet… you know who you are O&G CEOs tough times all round I know) do you let waves of negativity from the news wash into your head?

Would you rather listen to something more stimulating and get your synapses firing ready for work? Yes, me too! This is why I am so delighted at the boom in Podcasting. The same number of Americans, 21%, listen to podcasts as use Twitter for example, and the audience grew 23% between 2015 and 2016. Pretty much every new device and even your car will now allow you to play podcasts.

In less time than it takes for your daily commute our new podcast ”Write With Courage’ brings you a weekly dose of ‘danger’ or ‘anti-dullness’, from exciting writers and thinkers with stories to tell.

Here is an early episode of Write With Courage!’ Our guest is Scott Adams. Scott is the Cartoonist creator of Dilbert, which appears online and in 2,000 newspapers worldwide in 65 countries and 25 languages. He’s also Authored 15 books, and is a regular guest on US Television, most recently commentating on Donald Trump and his persuasive messaging.

Two other podcasts I’d recommend for those of us who aspire to become better presenters, storytellers, and writers:

“Story Club” – Australia’s finest raconteurs gather in front of a live audience to reveal their funniest stories, darkest moments and their shameful secrets.

“That’s The Way I Heard It” narrated by Mike Rowe – for a different take on the people and events that you thought you knew, from pop culture to politics, Hollywood to history.

Simply tap those titles or ‘Write With Courage’ into iTunes or Stitcher, subscribe and you’re away, for free. And for less sleep-inducing presentations or pitches, please, be yourself, express opinions and more danger, less dull!

*please feel free to suggest authors, writers and ideas people you’d like us to try and interview for Write With Courage
