Independent engineering and services firm SengS has been awarded new North Sea contracts worth £500,000 as the business continues to capitalise on opportunities presented by the low oil price.

The Ellon-based company, which provides engineering, testing, control and hydraulic systems and tooling to the energy industry, has agreed deals with two operators and two international service companies in the past three months.

The scope of work will see SengS design and manufacture a jacket centraliser for an offshore platform; provide mechanical services and pressure testing for a topsides project; design and manufacture remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) intervention tooling for an inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) project; test wellhead equipment with the company’s own external water test tank; and, perform pressure testing and a system integration test (SIT) for a subsea well intervention system.

Murray Kerr, founder and managing director of SengS, said: “Our focus remains very much on the North Sea and these latest project awards, which demonstrate the full range of capabilities possessed by the team here at SengS, clearly indicate that there are still opportunities for proactive companies with the right approach.

“Despite the undoubted challenges continuing to face the sector, we are confident in our ability to add value to our clients’ operations, while our response time and approach to work sets us apart. This has been reflected in the fact that, even in the current climate, we are continuing to attract and retain significant oil and gas businesses.”

In 2015, Murray Kerr won a hat-trick of prestigious business awards: the Young Professional Award at the SPE Offshore Achievement Awards; the Emerging Entrepreneur (Scotland) accolade at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards; and, the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year honour at the 2015 Elevator Awards. SengS also won Business Success Under Three Years at the 2014 Elevator Awards.
