Aberdeen-based North Group, a specialist provider of both interior and exterior construction and refurbishment services, has secured a key contract as part of the £107 million Marischal Square development.
The £1.4 million contract follows a strong and substantial period of activity for the company which has recently worked on a number of high profile projects including the Capitol and Trump International Scotland Turnberry. The opportunity was identified at a Meet the Buyer event organised by Aberdeen City Council.
Recent wins also include the fit-out of 228 Dandara apartments in Stoneywood in a deal worth £750,000 and a £450,000 contract to refurbish Dyce and Central Fire Stations through Kier Construction. The company also recently won a silver award in partitioning systems at the Finishes & Interiors Sector (FIS) awards.
The Marischal Square development will consist of 175,000 sq. ft. of office space, a 126-room Residence Inn by Marriott hotel, and seven restaurants and bars – with North Group expected to remain on site for the duration of the project, which is due to complete in July 2017.
The company’s joinery division will carry out the design, manufacture and installation of reception desks to the two office blocks, along with a drylining package to the office blocks and the internal doors and ironmongery to the hotel and office blocks. Morgan Sindall is leading the construction of the site.
Karl Lewis, estimating director of North Group said the company was delighted to be involved in such a high profile project.
He said: “Winning this contract reflects the strength of our team and we are looking forward to being part of such a prestigious development at the heart of the city centre. This builds on a number of high profile projects for us recently and we hope this will lead to future opportunities for North Group.
“Our joinery team has begun work on site and with our bespoke capabilities combined with our experienced personnel, we are confident of delivering a high quality interior fit-out that will enhance the interior of the development.”
Mike Tonner, Regional Supply Chain Director of Morgan Sindall, said: “Morgan Sindall is committed to delivering economic benefits to the communities we work in and we are delighted that North Group have been able to secure this contract. We look forward to North helping us deliver this important development for Aberdeen. ”
Aberdeen City Council leader Jenny Laing said “We are delighted that our Meet the Buyer event was instrumental in helping North Group to win this contract, they are among a number of Aberdeen-based businesses who have already benefitted from the early construction phase for Marischal Square, a City Centre Masterplan project.
“The council are committed to securing the long-term future of the north-east and help to facilitate skills development & training, networking and development opportunities for local businesses via our Skills & Employability team who deliver programmes such as Meet the Buyer, Positive Procurement and Business Boosters. Buy North East is a campaign that has also recently been launched with local partners, all collectively striving to encourage local procurement, retaining expenditure in the area as well as protecting and creating jobs.
