Supernature Oils will start selling its multi award-winning Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil products to foodservice giant, Brakes Scotland.

The deal will see the Midlothian-based company distribute cold pressed rapeseed oil as well as four Infused oils and Black Truffle oil to Brakes Scotland, which has over 11,000 customers throughout Scotland.

Rapeseed oil is the fastest growing sector of the oils category in the UK, and is worth around £7.2 million*, with Scottish Rapeseed Oil growing well in 2015. Sales of cold-pressed rapeseed oil in Scotland have grown by 18* per cent in the past year, with 33,000* new shoppers buying the product for the first time.

Supernature Oils was born when founder, and former psychotherapist, Lynn Mann and husband Chris Mann, saw a downturn in commodity prices for the wheat and barley they were growing, so they turned to diversification. Crucially, Chris chose to grow a spring rather than a winter variety, which is planted in April and harvested in September, its natural rapid growth in the long daylight hours of a Scottish summer, produce a very smooth, high quality of oil. Packed with nutrients, it has a delightful buttery taste that makes it perfect for everything from salad dressings and dips to roasting and baking. It is a great-tasting, healthy, local alternative to imported olive oil.

Lynn Mann, co-owner of Supernature Oils said “I am absolutely delighted to distribute our Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil to Brakes Scotland. In partnering with Brakes we can reach a much larger potential customer base and offer the highest quality of oil at a competitive price. Their teams have been fantastic to work with in gaining and setting up this listing, and we look forward to growing our business with them.”

Supernature Oils was founded in 2011 and since then Lynn and Chris have taken personal charge of growing, pressing, filtering and bottling products on their site at Carrington Barns Farm near Edinburgh.

The oils have become a firm favourite in the kitchen of top chefs including Martin Wishart and who uses the products in his Michelin-star restaurant. As well as recognition from top chefs, Supernature Oils have won a number of awards for their oils in the past 3 years including Great Taste Awards for their Original, Chilli, Basil, Lime, Lemon and also White and Black truffle oils, which have gained a Harrods listing.

John McLintock, Operations Director for Brakes Scotland, said: “Supernature are a great example of how a small yet ambitious business in Midlothian can grow – we are always looking to support businesses who have fabulous products and we are excited to get these products into the hands of our customers. Scottish rapeseed oil is well known in the culinary world, with TV chefs recognising the appeal of its taste and health credentials, and in the next couple of years, we expect that it will become well established as a premium Scottish product with Scottish chefs in the industry.”
