Year of success for digital skills academy and Eureka Solutions’ CodeClan graduate

Syed Atique

As Scotland’s new digital skills academy celebrates its first anniversary, one of its earliest graduates is also marking a year of success with award-winning cloud business solutions provider Eureka Solutions.

Syed Atique was among the first cohort to undertake intensive courses at CodeClan, the coding academy set up to tackle the growing digital skills gap in Scotland. On completion, he immediately found a role as a software developer with the UK-wide company.

Syed is now delivering on his new-found skills and working with Eureka Solutions on the launch of a new product, Cloud Data Exchange, using Python - a coding language he was able to learn because of the skills he developed during his time at CodeClan.

CodeClan is designed to create a new generation of software developers with the skills employers need. It is backed by the Scottish Government, Scotland’s digital technologies trade body ScotlandIS and Skills Development Scotland.

The academy is designed to address the shortage of suitably-qualified high tech employees in Scotland, where the number of technology vacancies sits at more than 11,000.

Syed, who has a background in electronic engineering, used the challenging four-month course to enhance and hone his professional programming skills in Ruby, JavaScript, JQuery and AngularJS.

He said: “The CodeClan course also increased my confidence and teamworking skills with motivation and support provided by the staff. I am now applying these skills in a live and exciting workplace environment with Eureka Solutions.

“It was a great day for me when I successfully finished the CodeClan course and I was able to say: ‘I am now a software developer’.”

He signed up in January 2016 with Eureka Solutions, which earlier this year moved its 45 staff to a brand new purpose built HQ in East Kilbride, Scotland, following a significant increase in growth in recent years.

Gillian Livingstone, Managing Director of Eureka Solutions said: “CodeClan is an excellent initiative by the agencies involved and fulfils a very important function if Scotland is to move smoothly towards a successful and sustainable digital economy.

“It is a measure of the academy’s immediate success that more than 90% of the initial cohort of students have found gainful employment as soon as they have graduated from the programme.”

Eureka Solutions is a major provider of both Sage and NetSuite ERP, which deliver the proven, comprehensive, financial management capabilities required to grow a changing, complex business.

Although based in Scotland, Eureka Solutions has a significant customer base throughout the UK, with many projects in the pipeline.
