When did you start (with) the company?
I started the business in 2008

In 50 words or less what does your company do?

We provide marketing advice and outsourced marketing for businesses which don't have their own marketing departments - that includes marketing plans, all sorts of marketing project management, copywriting and social media training.

 

What part of the business do you like best?
I love it when you put a plan together for a client and help implement it, then start seeing the results coming through. It still gives me a buzz! I really enjoy meeting such a wide range of lovely people and helping them take their businesses forward.

If you had to start again from scratch what would you do differently?
I would be a little bit braver, and set more ambitious goals from the start. It's amazing how much focus you get just from having some really clear goals.


I would also be more relaxed about being myself, rather than feeling like I had to appear like part of a big company. People buy from people and personality is all part of the deal


What is unique about what the company does?
As well as helping with plans and ideas, if a client doesn't have time to manage their own marketing, we do it for them. So we can deal with all the suppliers and pull the campaign together, making sure everything happens at the right time. For a small business owner, this can often be a huge relief, as they are so busy dealing with the day to day work that they can't handle co-ordinating all their marketing too.


Has there been a key moment or turning point?

A key moment was when I discovered social media! Not only has it brought me new business, but I realised that I was quite good at using it and started showing other people how to use it too. As an added bonus, presenting training sessions on social media has increased the profile of the business generally.


How do you intend to grow the company?

More of the same!

Speaker slots at events

Plus some targeted marketing aimed at promoting specific services to specific segments and possible partnerships with other specialists.

 

Do you have any non-executive directors, mentors or key advisors? Who are they?
Nobody specific, but I always enjoy talking to people who are in a similar sort of business and bouncing ideas around.


What will the next 12 months hold?

Now that I have someone else working for me, I would like to bring in more copywriting work for her. Apart from that, I'm always looking for new ideas and new opportunities, so watch this space!


If you were given £100,000 to invest in the company, how would you use it?

I would definitely take on more people, so that we can increase the specialist skills we can offer ourselves. I'd probably open a wee office in the city centre and have a big party!


What's the best part of running a business?

I love the variety. All our clients are very different, so you are always learning something new. Making my own decisions about how to do things is great, as is the flexibility of being able to work where and when I want.


What do you do to relax?
I love playing tennis and also try to run regularly. However, most of my spare time is spent driving our two children around and fitting in with their hectic social lives. Living in Deeside, we try to make the most of our beautiful surroundings and spend time outdoors.
