New festival Drink! Aberdeen has secured a number of renowned industry experts for its inaugural food and drink event.
The week-long programme, created by bar operator and events company 10 Dollar Shake, is taking place across a number of venues, distilleries and breweries in the north-east between May 25 – 31.
Included in the line-up is Dr Rachel Edwards Stuart, a food science advisor to Heston Blumenthal and Hervé This and his molecular gastronomy team in Paris, who is hosting a seminar on the science of flavour.
Wild food consultant and forager at Galloway Wild Foods, Mark Williams, will lead a wild booze walk and whisky columnist and founder of World Whisky Day, Blair Bowman, will also be hosting a whisky and food pairing dinner.
A BrewDog beer and popcorn tasting, tours of Six Degrees North's new Laurencekirk Brewery and the Glen Garioch whisky distillery in Inverurie are also included in the schedule.
Managing director of 10 Dollar Shake and owner of bars The Tippling House and Rye and Soda, Adrian Gomes, said: “We wanted to run a festival to inspire people, in and out with the hospitality industry, to be creative in the way they think about food and drinks.
“A number of dinners, seminars and tours will educate on making and enjoying good food and beverages while celebrating the culture and heritage of the drinks industry.
“In Aberdeen City and Shire we have so many pioneering businesses in the sector and I wanted to work with them to formulate an enviable programme of events.
“What is great about the bar and drinks industry is the way that different brands and companies enjoy working together in pursuit of a common goal.
“Our mission at 10 Dollar Shake, and in our venues The Tippling House and Rye and Soda, is to inject creativity and ingenuity into the North East’s bar scene. We are delighted that Drink! Aberdeen has attracted so many industry partners who are also striving for creativity and can offer unique events in the schedule.
“We also hope that the festival will inspire the next generation of hospitality talent. There are so many opportunities in the bar and drinks industry both in Scotland and worldwide. The sector can often be seen as a stop-gap job space. But with so many intricacies, things to learn and avenues to pursue it can make for a rewarding and lucrative career.
