Conference Care staff raise £10,000 with 400 mile cycle

Four members of venue finding and hotel booking agency Conference Care’s team have completed a gruelling 400 mile cycle for charity, raising £10,000 in the process.

Founding directors Chris Peacock and Andrew Deakin, head of sales for Scotland, Pauline Beattie, and business manager for Scotland, Sean Henderson, set off on their journey on Monday 14 September, aiming to travel from their sales hub in Dunfermline to its Coventry headquarters by the Friday.

The riders completed an average of 80 miles per day, enduring biting cold and wet weather, punctures, a number of falling off incidents and even a cycle path with the risk of explosions.

By the Wednesday, the cyclists had already raised their £10,000 target for Help4Harry and Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Chris’ father-in-law, Ken, manned the support vehicle over the week, and the team were greeted by friends and family when they crossed the finish line on the Friday.

The welcoming team included 7-year-old Harry Barnley, who inspired the challenge and suffers with the rare Duchene strain of Muscular Dystrophy.

MDUK South East regional development manager, Anneke Liefting, also joined them at the end of the cycle, announcing that their total raised of £10,420 equated to 250 hours of research into the specific strain of Harry’s condition.
