Law Society of Scotland publishes annual plan

The Law Society of Scotland has published its annual plan for the year ahead, which sets out the targets for the first 12 months of its five-year “Leading Legal Excellence” strategy.

Over the next year, the organisation aims to secure agreement on a new Legal Services Act, and implement reforms to improve the protection available for consumers.

It also plans to launch new services for its members, agree new categories of affiliate membership, raise its membership numbers to 11,800, and boost its commercial income to £1.6million.

Lorna Jack, Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “The next 12 months will mark one of the most significant periods of change in the Law Society’s proud 66-year history. We are excited to begin the journey towards being a truly world-class professional body and the annual plan sets out how we will work towards achieving our ambitions.

“It’s important for us to define our priorities as an organisation and it has been great to get so much positive feedback from our members and others across the legal and business communities on the vision we have set out in the Leading Legal Excellence Strategy 2015-2020.

“We want to ensure that our members and others have a clear understanding of what we want to achieve and why. The annual plan is an important part of that conversation which explains how we will assure the public, serve our members, excel as an organisation, influence society around us and grow our membership and income.”

The Society’s strategy for 2015-2020 focuses on delivering the highest possible standards within the legal profession, and aims to offer membership to other legal sector professionals, reflecting the wider changes being seen in the sector.
