Graeme Reid - Mac Resourcing

Your Name - Graeme Reid
Company Name - Mac Resourcing

Who helped you get where you are today?

Many people have helped me along the way. My parents owned a green grocer shop and I observed a fantastic work ethic from them when I was in my childhood. I have been fortunate to work along side some fantastic people and I have learned the best from them and in some cases how not to conduct business.

What do you still hope to achieve in business?

Maritime Assurance & Consulting and MAC Resourcing although very successful to date are very much young companies. In both cases I see significant growth potential locally, nationally and potentially internationally. Therefore for our staff and management, I see incredibly exciting times ahead.

What is your greatest business challenge today?

As both companies are service organisations, one of the greatest challenges today is attracting experienced, enthusiastic, and entrepreneurial individuals to our business. This is essential and one of the main reasons for creating MAC Resourcing.

If you were in power in government, what would you change?

The speed in which things get achieved! It seems that discussions and debates on certain matters can go on for years – for example the AWPR and third Don crossing. In business if it took so long for anything to be decided, nothing would ever be achieved!

Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?

We have travelled to France and the US on many occasions. However perhaps the most memorable place I have been on holiday was a small town in China called Xian in the Shaanxi Province. This is where the famous Terracotta Warriors were discovered and the sheer scale of the find still amazes me.

Do you have any spare time and, if so, what do you do?

My spare time is pretty consumed with a normal family life – I enjoy golf although not seriously and hill walking - on my last trip, I walked the Lairig Gru from the Linn of Dee to Coylumbridge which was spectacular.

What are you reading, listening to or glued to on TV?

I love watching action / sci fi / comedy movies of all kinds and have recently invested in a movie projector and screen so that we can have the cinema effect in our living room – the children love this.

If you were a character in a TV series or movie, who would you be?
In the very early days of setting up the company there were occasions where I felt like I’d had a worse day than Jack Bauer.

What do you drive and dream of driving?

I drive a Mercedes M Class which I love. I don’t really have a dream car although I have looked before at the older Maserati 3200.

What would your children (or partner) say about you?

My wife would say I was hard working, passionate about work, calm, forward thinking. My children gave me an answer when I asked them which I’d rather not repeat.

Which charity do you support and why?

It is so difficult to select charities as there are so many and they are so varied however we have focused more on the children’s charities lately including the Aberlour Children’s charity, Dreams Come True and the Archie Foundation.

What’s on your bucket list - the things you still want to accomplish?

I’d like to go back to Xian when they have excavated more Warrior tombs, would like to extensively travel the further afield locations for example South America, and Asia. For me, travelling is the best form of education and experience you can get.
