New head of industry development for QMS

Quality Meat Scotland has appointed a new head of industry development, who will start in the role at the end of the month.

Douglas Bell takes over the reins from Johnny Mackey, and is currently head of the Agricultural Policy Unit of SAC Consulting, which is part of SRUC, Scotland’s Rural College.

Douglas has 30 years’ experience delivering high level management advice and training through routes including consultancy, project design and facilitation.

He is also involved in the running of his family farm near Carnwath in Lanarkshire.

Uel Morton, QMS chief executive, said: “Doug brings a wealth of experience, as well as core skills, to the role and we look forward to him joining our staff team in the coming weeks.

“QMS’s industry development activities are an important area of our workload and we are very encouraged by the strong interest from farmers in grassroots activities aimed at improving the profitability, sustainability and confidence of the Scottish red meat industry.”
