Scottish marketing company, Genoa Black, was awarded Professional Services Exporter of the Year at the annual HSBC Scottish Export Awards.

The award follows recent work with global exporters, Alba Power, READ Cased Hole and The Edrington Group.

With over 400 guests in attendance at the Hilton Glasgow, the awards celebrate the entrepreneurial exporting achievements of Scotland’s top exporters.

The business awards recognise excellence and achievement as well as providing inspiration and encouragement for others. Nominations for the awards surpassed all organisers’ expectations, with over 100 exporters entering at least one of the eight categories and 65 companies becoming finalists earlier this year.

Genoa Black won the prestigious business award, facing competition from Sports Lab and Worldwide Business also shortlisted.

Judged by a panel of five including John Anderson, Director of Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at Strathclyde Business School, David Scott, HSBC Deputy Head of Corporate and Peter Ranscombe, Editor of BQ Scotland, the Professional Service Advisor Award recognised businesses that play a key role in supporting exporters to trade overseas either directly or indirectly through providing associated services such as advice and consultancy.

Genoa Black was formed two and half years ago and has significant experience supporting Scottish business through marketing regionally, nationally and overseas. Most of its clients are involved in exporting, many now reporting over 70% of their turnover related to export sales.

The fast growing company, with offices in Edinburgh, Perth and Kinross and Aberdeen, provides international marketing for global turbine service provider, Alba Power, who also won Large Exporter of the Year at the awards, as well as drinks manufacturer, The Edrington Group, and READ Cased Hole, for whom Genoa Black has helped build its global profile through a concerted new product rebranding and launch campaign at ICoTA this month in Houston including extensive industry PR and digital marketing.

Tobben Tymons, Technical Director at READ Cased Hole commented, “Genoa Black has delivered excellent work and through close collaboration with the READ team, has been instrumental in achieving a step change in READ Cased Hole’s global profile.”

Last week also saw Account Manager, Sarah Low work closely with the client in Houston, supporting the launch of an innovative new product in the well logging sector at ICoTA. Tobben continued, “We were delighted to have Sarah join us in Houston for one of the world’s premier well intervention events and offer full support and guidance across the two days of the event.”

“Congratulations to Claire and all the team at Genoa Black for a very well deserved win!”

Claire Kinloch, Owner and Managing Director accepted the award together with Partners Vicki Whetton and Gaynor Duthie and explained, “We were absolutely thrilled to take home this fantastic award. As we approach our third year it is very exciting to be working with such a diverse range of fantastic clients who continue to export and bring investment into Scotland. We are hugely proud to be part of that process and look forward to continued work with them.”

Alison McGregor, CEO of HSBC Scotland, added: “(the BQ Awards) has been a celebration of some of our most talented businesses that are connecting Scotland to international opportunities. Encouraging more of this entrepreneurial spirit seen here will help to rebalance the economy outside of London with direct benefits for Scotland."

Currently working with clients globally in the US, Asia, Middle East, Dominican Republic and Europe, Genoa Black seeks to continue its international journey and is looking to open offices in London and Boston to further enhance its export growth.
