6 NE companies win places on Britain's fastest-growing international sales stars

Six North-East businesses have earned their places on the the sixth annual Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table which ranks Britain’s mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

The six are ICR Integrity, EFC Group, BrewDog, Entier, Saltire Energy and Balmoral Group.

There are 16 Scottish companies (compared to 21 last year) and they have made a significant contribution to Scotland’s economy over the last two years. During this time they added 3,020 jobs and now employ a total of 16,200 people. Their international sales have grown by an average of 48% a year over two years to a total of £480m, on combined sales of £1.3bn.

Scotland’s highest-ranked company is Aberdeen-based ICR Integrity, which provides maintenance services to oil and gas majors. The business is owned by private-equity firm Graphite Capital, which backed a management buyout last year for an undisclosed sum. ICR’s international sales rose 118% pa to £13.6m in 2014, placing the firm at No 16 in the UK league table.

ICR is one of six Aberdeenshire companies to feature in the list. Others include BrewDog, Scotland’s largest independent brewery. The craft beer business exports to more than 50 countries and generated international sales of £9.7m last year. Three Edinburgh firms also appear, including travel search engine Skyscanner, whose overseas sales hit £69.1m last year, boosted by its growth in the Asia Pacific region.

The businesses in Scotland feature on the league table alongside companies from around the UK, including cheesemaker Wensleydale Dairy Products, architect Zaha Hadid, Oscar-winning visual effects studio Framestore, and Cath Kidston, the homeware and fashion retailer.

The International Track 200 is sponsored by HSBC and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events company.

Amanda Murphy, UK head of corporate banking at HSBC, commented:

“The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 is a great reflection of the value of building connections overseas. The world is getting smaller, and international business relationships are easier to build, providing ambitious businesses with many more opportunities to grow. I'm delighted to see so many great British mid-sized firms making such a strong impression on the world stage."
