A history of success

Back in 1966 when England was heading to World Cup glory, some of the first winners of the Awards included Rolls-Royce, Vauxhall Motors and De La Rue. Other notable winners include The Penguin Publishing Co, Weetabix Ltd and the Royal Mint. JCB - the heavy equipment manufacturer - has been awarded a record 27 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise since the company first entered back in 1969.

Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, comments:

“The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is the UK’s highest official accolade for business success and has been supporting British industry for 50 years. There were over 140 recipients of a Queen’s Award for this year, and that is a demonstration of the quality, diversity and tenacity of UK businesses.

Companies that are growing, innovating and championing UK business overseas deserve the recognition that these awards bestow; they demonstrate that innovative and entrepreneurial spirit is well and truly present in British industry. I’m delighted that over 140 UK businesses have been successful in 2015, and I hope to see that number rise still further in the years to come.”
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise offer businesses a unique opportunity to showcase excellence in their given field. Winners of the awards receive a commemorative Grant of Appointment and will be able to use the prestigious Award Emblem on websites, marketing and advertising materials, and on all goods produced, for five years. Winners enjoy long-term media exposure through the use of the emblem and companies report that being awarded helps gain introductions to new customers and provides a boost to staff morale.
