Law firm Harper Macleod has been appointed to act for Registers of Scotland (RoS) after winning a competitive tender.

RoS is a non-ministerial government department which compiles and maintains 17 public registers relating to land, property and other legal documents.

Under the tender, awarded through the new Scottish Central Government Framework, Harper Macleod will be RoS’ sole legal advisers, providing advice in relation to property matters; contract, commercial and corporate matters; and employment law matters.

Professor Lorne Crerar, chairman of Harper Macleod, said: “This is an extremely prestigious appointment for the firm and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work closely with Registers of Scotland at such a crucial point in its history. With projects including the completion of the Land Register by 2024 and the major digital transformation the organisation is proposing to undertake, it is an exciting time to be involved with the department.

“It’s a testament to our breadth of expertise and standing in the Scottish legal sector, not only in the public sector but across all practice areas, that we have been entrusted with this role following an extremely competitive tender process.”
