CBO Associates among first in Scotland for leading certification

Clark Boles

An Aberdeen-based QHSE specialist has become one of the first companies in Scotland to achieve an industry-leading certification.

Led by managing director Clark Boles, CBO Associates has successfully completed the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 combined transition course, approved by the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA).

The company provides quality, health, safety and environmental consultancy to businesses across the north-east of Scotland, particularly where external certification is required.

This dual award, for quality and the environment, will allow CBO Associates to assist companies with the transition to the new standard, as well as supporting those who are looking to embark on this project for the first time.

One of the most significant changes required by the 2015 systems is the need for senior management to demonstrate to auditors that relevant procedures are embedded into the wider company culture.

CBO Associates managing director Clark Boles is now urging other north-east businesses to ensure they have the necessary processes and systems in place to aid future growth.

He said: “It’s a great honour to have become one of the first practitioners in Scotland to receive this respected certification and clearly highlights the importance our company places upon continuous improvement and staying ahead of the latest industry developments.

“Organisations have until September 2018 to comply with the new standard for both 9001 and 14001; however, these key systems cannot simply be put in place overnight - even for those already familiar with the existing process.

“Business people need to start thinking about making this change now; it takes time to embed the necessary changes into the wider company culture and ensure that they reap the maximum benefits.

“We work closely with our customers and see ourselves as an extended employee of those businesses, rather than as an external resource. This approach has helped us to understand the specific needs of individual businesses and how the implementation of management systems can make a real difference to their day-to-day operations.”

These latest revisions are designed to ensure that management systems for quality and the environment continue to adapt to the conditions in which organisations operate. ISO 9001:2015 is widely considered the best global quality management standard available to support an organisation to ensure a well-managed and cohesive governance, risk and compliance strategy.

In addition, ISO 14001:2015 aims to align environmental management systems more closely with an organisation’s strategy, placing greater emphasis on reducing environmental impacts across the whole lifecycle of products and services – helping develop sustainable business practices.

Established in 2012, CBO Associates provides QHSE services to small and medium-sized companies across Scotland, including those operating in the oil and gas, commercial, industrial, engineering and construction industries.

Managing director Clark Boles possesses more than 20 years’ industry experience. He is an NQA associate consultant, a DNV GL gateway consultant, a member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and a member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
