Aberdeen lawyer reacts to market with new service

Carole Ferguson

An Aberdeen lawyer has been inspired to launch a brand new service as a result of the downturn in oil prices.

Carole Ferguson now offers Outsource – the ‘on demand’ in-house lawyer service, offering the expertise of an in-house lawyer without the commitment.

“I see first-hand the problems faced by the oil industry - they are under immense pressure to cut costs, but can’t risk having an in-house legal adviser who isn’t fully qualified, and it’s the same in many other sectors,” the principal solicitor at Ferguson Legal explained.

“I have seen the trend for an outsource service work well in Australia and the United States and saw this could be the perfect opportunity to introduce it here, not just to the oil industry but across all markets.”

“My clients love to have the personal service without the full-time commitment, as well as the option of having their lawyer work remotely or in the office.”

The service is open to all sectors – and quickly appealed to GM Mackenzie Ltd, a fast-moving project management consultancy with complex legal requirements.

“The nature of our business means there are periods where we need an in-house lawyer every day, handling contracts and employment law, followed by quieter periods where we don’t. To have a resource that matched our demand and allowed us to save a considerable sum was just brilliant – I don’t know why law firms haven’t offered this sooner,” said managing director Gordon Milne.

Outsource gives companies a fixed cost per month. A service contract gives the client full financial control by outlining the precise legal work required.

Ferguson Legal offers all aspects of commercial law including transport and logistics, construction, compliance and regulatory, health and safety, energy, investigations and criminal prosecution as well as litigation services
