Six-figure project wins for Aberdeen marine services firm

Maritime Assurance and Consulting (MAC) has won two Marine Warranty Surveying (MWS) projects for one of its key business areas worth six-figures.

MAC will provide Marine Warranty Services for Nautilus Minerals (‘Nautilus’) during the transportation and delivery of their three Seafloor Production Tools (SPTs) from the UK to the South Seas.

The SPTs will be used to mine the seafloor at Nautilus’ Solwara 1 Project site, located in the Bismarck Sea, Papua New Guinea. In the first stage of their journey, the SPTs will travel from the UK to Oman.

Peter Wilson, engineering manager at MAC who leads the project, said: “We have been supporting Nautilus for the last four years in a number of areas for the Solwara 1 Project.

“Acting as Marine Warranty Surveyor in the transportation of the SPTs, we will conduct vessel suitability surveys, approve the initial lifts on site, the transportation on land by trailers, and the subsequent lifts on to a heavy-lift ships and barges, as well as the sea fastening on-board the ship and the removal of the equipment in Oman and China.

“The present scope of our work with Nautilus also includes the load-out, transportation and offload of various other items of equipment, including all support equipment for the SPTs as well as the Launch and Recovery System (LARS).

“The majority of the equipment will be shipped directly to China to meet up with the Nautilus’ Production Support Vessel which is currently under construction in Fujian.”

“MAC personnel will mobilise to Norway, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Korea and China as part of this project.

“As always, MAC will work closely with our contractors to ensure all aspects of the operations are performed as smoothly and safely as possible,” he added.

The second Marine Warranty project relates to a large subsea infrastructure installation with tieback to an existing platform located around 80 miles offshore in North East Scotland.
