New pioneer category for oil and gas industry awards

Oil & Gas UK has announced a new category to celebrate the industry’s pioneers, ahead of the sector’s ninth annual awards evening.

To recognise the industry’s current drive for new, more efficient ways of working, the Oil and Gas Authority MER UK Award will recognise firms whose co-operative approach and positive behaviour has helped to maximise the economic recovery of oil and gas from the UKCS.

Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive, Deirdre Michie, said: “I’m delighted to announce this award, which recognises the importance of addressing our current challenges. This latest addition to our Awards line-up reflects one of the key challenges facing industry today. Industry as a whole is putting a great deal of effort into improving its performance – and I look forward to hearing just some of those examples of excellence on the night.

“The OGA is a critical catalyst for the work being done to sustain activity in the offshore oil and gas sector and we look forward to working with Andy Samuel and the OGA in encouraging co-operation across the industry and promoting its achievements.”

Chief executive of the OGA, Andy Samuel, added: “We are seeing a real commitment from operators and service companies to find new, more efficient ways of working that can be sustained over the long term and help create a positive future for the industry.

“The MER UK Award will recognise those companies whose co-operative approach and positive behaviours have helped to maximise the economic recovery of oil and gas from the UKCS.

“We’re looking for operators and service companies – large and small – who have demonstrated strong leadership in pioneering successful new ways of working that can be shared and adopted across the industry.”

The Oil & Gas UK Awards 2015, which are sponsored by Shell U.K. Limited, take place at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on November 5. Nominations for the Oil and Gas Authority MER UK Award close on September 2.

More information about the awards and an application form can be found on the Oil & Gas UK website.
