Subsea 7 secures £100m Culzean contract

The Maersk Oil-operated Culzean field development

Subsea 7 has been awarded a £100million subsea, umbilical, riser and flowline (SURF) contract by Maersk Oil for the Culzean development.

The contract will see the firm construct and install a total of 52km of pipelines in the Central North Sea, alongside subsea structures, tie-ins to the Culzean platform facilities and pre-commissioning expertise.

Subsea 7 has said the staff at its Aberdeen office will “commence immediately” with the project management and engineering work needed. Offshore operations are scheduled to begin in 2017, and will use a number of the firm’s vehicles including its pipelay and heavy-lift vessel, Seven Borealis.

Phil Simons, Subsea 7 vice president UK and Canada, said: “This large project awarded by Maersk Oil for their Culzean field development, confirms our reputation as a world-class provider of reliable and cost-effective SURF solutions.

“The Seven Borealis has the ability to deliver fit-for-purpose performance demonstrating the optimum balance of cost-efficiency and capability. We look forward to collaborating with Maersk to ensure the safe and timely delivery of this significant gas production development.”
