Bryan Jackson

Johnston Carmichael has appointed one of the UK’s leading business recovery practitioners to its restructuring team.

With 34 years of corporate recovery experience, Bryan Jackson has successfully led the formal insolvency appointment for six football clubs in Scotland (most recently Heart of Midlothian) and one in England, all of which continue to operate to this day. His corporate restructuring portfolio extends to a much wider range of sectors including retail where he handled high profile administrations for the likes of The Gadget Shop, USC and the southern division of Optical Express.

Bryan is a highly respected voice on both corporate and personal insolvency who has served on numerous bodies promoting his profession. He is a member of ICAS and former chairman of its Insolvency Committee; a Fellow of Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3); a member of The Chartered Institute of Credit Management and a former Non-Executive Board Member of the Accountant in Bankruptcy. A past examiner on personal insolvency of the Joint Insolvency Examination Board (JIEB), Bryan has lectured extensively about his profession over the course of his career.

He joins Johnston Carmichael as a Consultant and will be based out of the firm’s Glasgow office, managing a Scotland-wide remit as a key figure within the Restructuring team.

Bryan Jackson’s appointment is another of the recent highlights for Johnston Carmichael’s Restructuring team which was named Insolvency Team of the Year at this year’s Scottish Accountancy and Finance Awards. The team has also secured a number of recent restructuring appointments, including liquidator for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Malcolm Fraser Architects, as well as administrator for Portpatrick Holdings, a development site in the Dumfries and Galloway town.

Commenting on his appointment, Bryan Jackson said: “After 34 fantastic years at PKF, which laterally became BDO following merger, I feel really energised by this new opportunity with Johnston Carmichael. It’s a highly regarded Scottish-based firm with a strong growth record and great people. I know some of Johnston Carmichael’s business recovery experts, whom I have worked with over recent years, and now look forward to supporting the wider Restructuring team in this new chapter of my career.”

Matt Henderson, Head of Restructuring at Johnston Carmichael, said: “Bryan is one of the most experienced and respected insolvency practitioners in the UK and brings tremendous value to the firm. With a long and distinguished track record, he has a wealth of experience and excellent links into a wide range of referral sources including banks, solicitors, accountants and advisory services as well as other corporate and personal clients. We’re very excited to welcome him to our team.”
